Forking Around Part 1 – Fox Suspension

Fork specs… I suspect that I’m not alone when I say, ‘Arrrgghhh!’ It’s one thing that can really, really piss me off. When trying to understand how a bike is going to handle, it’s important to know more than just the head angle. You need to consider head angle along with the axle-to-crown length and offset (rake) of the fork (plus BB drop, stay length, etc if you’re really going to be anal about it). And, since it is rare that a manufacturer will provide all of this info in their specs, you’re often left guessing and/or pulling your hair out trying to track down this info on the fork manufacturer’s webpage. Remarkably, I still have a full head of hair so I’ll take one for the team and will try to compile as much info as I can over several posts. Before I get started, though, kudos to Trek as they actually provide offset and trail (although no axle-to-crown length) in their geometry sheets. I’d definitely buy a Trek (if I wasn’t building my own) just because of this 😉

The following table lists the specs for most of the 2017 Fox lineup of forks. Like Trek, Fox is good at providing this info and you’ll find drawings on their webpages at, http://www.ridefox.com/help.php?m=bike&listall=specsheets. Thumbs up for Fox!
